Saint Mary’s Church, Sandringham

This beautiful ruined church sits above the road not far from the village of West Newton, near the heart of the Sandringham Estate. Part funded by the English Heritage organisation, we were employed to clean off the ivy and take down the top 750mm to enable us to clean out the roots to the north east nave wall.

All the masonry was measured, traced and replaced in it’s original position. The Chancel Arch and Respond was detached from the wall and had to have several pins to secure it to the main wall. All work was carried out in traditional lime mortars.

The Signal Box

Our client, First choice Developments, purchased the signal box after we had complete The Old Chapel in Holt for them. Knowing our passion for restoration and a challenge he thought that we would enjoy the challenge of not only the restoration but also the relocation form Mattishall to its new home in Hindolveston.

The Signal box was suffering from serious decay and required major timber repairs these were done with like for like timber to reduce the possibility of further decay. Also a new base was constructed so the base was not laying in water and to also increase the internal height of the lower floor.

This project is still in progress with the additional extension under construction.
